Professors for a Strong Israel
Statement to the Press - 4 October 2001
Re: Yes to Zionism, No to Oslo
In light of the continuing erosion in the Sharon Government's readiness to prosecute the Oslo War vigorously, to eliminate the arch-terrorist Arafat and to restore security to Israel and her citizens; following the authorization given to yet another Peres-Arafat meeting; and following the Prime Minister's declaration that indicated acceptance of a Palestinian state in the western portion of the Land of Israel:-
The chairmen of Professors for a Strong Israel and of the Officers' Forum for National Strength have sent a strongly worded message to the Ministers of the National Camp, demanding that they:
- make clear to the Prime Minister, publicly and forcefully, that they will not cooperate in continuing the present policy, namely, the Oslo policy as dictated by Foreign Minister Shimon Peres, which is already opposed by a majority of the Government;
- outlaw any meeting of Israelis - including MK's and Ministers - with Arafat and his terror apparatus;
- pursue a consistent military and economic policy, comprised of much more than mere acts of reprisal, to bring down Arafat's terror autonomy;
- restore security by giving the IDF a free hand;
- make their travels on the roads of Yesha and their visits to the Yesha communities more frequent and more public;
- adopt the name "Oslo War" for the current conflict and use it to emphasize its origins and its perpetrators, instead of the Arab and Leftist term "Al Aksa Intifada" (and the same applies to "territories");
- impose the Rule of Law in general, and particularly in the matter of illegal construction;
- transfer the responsibility for public relations from the Foreign Ministry to the Prime Minister's Office, and begin the isolation of Nobel Terror Laureate Arafat;
- not leave the Government, but rather change its makeup and its agenda so that its goals may be achieved.
The letter concludes with the statements:
- Continued silence constitutes acquiescence in the continuation of the Oslo process and the danger it poses to the State of Israel.
- Further travel down the Oslo road will make necessary the calling of early elections and the formation of a new Knesset that will truly reflect the will of the voters.
