Professors for a Strong Israel
Statement to the Press - 5 May 2006
Re: Not a lifeline — a noose
Olmert's new government has started out on the wrong foot.
Olmert's first policy statement is from the anti-Zionist theater of the
absurd, where giving away the homeland can be called a lifeline for
Zionism; his first operative decision throws pretensions of social
justice to the wind, by raising the price of bread.
Professors for a Strong Israel declares that dividing the country and
giving up the heartland to the enemy, along with the ethnic cleansing
of hundreds of thousands of Jewish citizens, would be not a lifeline
for Zionism but a hangman's noose.
Moreover, making historic parts of the Land of Israel into Judenrein
would fulfill the dreams of antisemites everywhere and encourage them
to do more.
We wish this dangerous, extremist government, the worst in our history,
as short a life as possible.
We trust that its early collapse will prevent it from turning Israel into
a graveyard for Zionism, for Judaism, and for democracy.
