Professors for a Strong Israel

Statement to the Press - 7 April 2003

Re: From slaughter to silence

One hundred years ago, the Kishinev Pogrom shook the Jewish world. Chaim Nachman Bialik, the National Poet, was moved to write "Al ha-Sh'chita" -- "Regarding Slaughter". And today a memorial ceremony is being held in Kishinev itself.

The death toll in Kishinev was 49. The Oslo War, by contrast, has brought death and mourning to hundreds and hundreds of homes in Israel. The independent Jewish government, in the Jewish homeland, concerns itself with a "road map" and with possible gestures to the "Prime Minister" of the Palestinian terror authority.

Professors for a Strong Israel deplores the silence of the ministers of the government, their apparent agreement to the establishment of an enemy state in the heart of the Land of Israel, and their apparent willingness to accept a "right of return" for Arabs, albeit (for now) only to Yesha.
