Statement to the Press - 7 July 2006
Re: No surrender
Professors for a Strong Israel stands by the family of Gilad Shalit, the
soldier abducted into Gaza; the families of the two soldiers killed in the
ongoing IDF operation; the family of Eliyahu Asheri, murdered in Samaria;
and the citizens of Israel living in Sderot, in the region surrounding
the Gaza Strip, and in Ashkelon.
We demand that the government act to free Gilad Shalit and to return normalcy
to life in Israel.
Israel's action must be strong, consistent, and continuous, until the
destruction of all the terrorist nests that threaten our country and our
way of life.
We reject entirely the idea of negotiating with terrorists. Surrender to
their demands will yield instant gratification but continue to weaken
Israel in the longer term. Only a powerful and uncompromising blow will
bring lasting results.
We support the IDF and trust in its ability to bring security to the state.
