Professors for a Strong Israel

Statement to the Press - 9 February 2002

Re: "Destroy the settlements, restore security"

The slogan, "Destroy the settlements, restore security," is often displayed at demonstrations of the extreme Left. We see no moral difference between this slogan and the wall graffiti that says, "No Arabs, no terrorist attacks." Both express incitement against a certain group, advocating their transfer as a magic formula for preventing terrorism and increasing security. Since the attorney general has banned the anti-Arab slogan, Professors for a Strong Israel has written to him and to the Minister for Internal Security, urging them to ban the anti-settlement slogan as well and to take steps against those who spread it.

We note that while "No Arabs, no attacks" is the product of an extreme and marginal minority of the Right, "Destroy the settlements" is the slogan of a political party, the extreme Leftist Meretz, represented by 10 members in the Knesset. There they loudly advocate the exile of Jews within their own country, just because they are Jews. Is this not racism and incitement to racism?
