Professors for a Strong Israel

Statement to the Press - 9 May 2007

Re: Bet Hashalom in Hevron

Some fifty members of Professors for a Strong Israel visited Bet Hashalom in Hevron yesterday in order to show support for the residents. After a tour and an account of the process by which the building was purchased, both given by Hevron spokesman Noam Arnon, and an address by Rabbi Moshe Levinger, the participants heard a lecture by attorney Daphne Netanyahu. The latter offered a detailed survey of the legal background to the government's attempts to invalidate the entirely legal acquisition by which a house in the City of the Patriarchs passed to Jewish ownership.

Professors for a Strong Israel calls on the law enforcement authorities to ignore the political posturing of ministers who wish to subvert the rule of law in favor of arbitrary rule by decree.
