Professors for a Strong Israel

Statement to the Press - 10 October 1998

Re: Towards Wye Plantation

The murder in the Jordan valley was not performed by opponents of peace, but by those who sense the weakness of the nation in retreat. Professors for a Strong Israel calls on the Prime Minister to resist the American-Palestinian pressure, to return home, and to devote his efforts to the restoration of Israel’s power, instead of to the continuation of the dangerous talks with the terrorists’ leader under the formula of "Land for Terror."

Members of PSI will take part in the demonstration of the National Camp in Jerusalem on Wednesday, October 14, the eve of the Prime Minister’s departure for the Wye Plantation conference, with the demand that he not sacrifice Israel’s vital interests.

We expect that the new Foreign Minister, Mr. Ariel Sharon, will keep the PM from yielding to American-Palestinian dictates. We condemn those who say that Sharon needs rehabilitation after his role in the Lebanon war. Those who should apologize are those who undermined the war effort at that time, and thus enabled Arafat to escape and to endanger Israel ever since. Those who should apologize are those who led Israel into the Oslo trap, from which it is so difficult to get out.
