Professors for a Strong Israel
Statement to the Press - 11 January 2006
Re: Hypocrisy
The man who is called Minister of Defense, senior figures in the legal system, the head of the Shin Bet, wheeler-dealers in the "human rights" business (as long as the humans aren't Jewish) -- all these rise in chorus to denounce the horrible spectacle of ... the destruction of olive trees. Arab olive trees, of course. At Professors for a Strong Israel, we ask where all these people were when the same Shaul Mofaz uprooted Jews from their homes and cut down their livelihoods. Why do these legal eagles attach themselves, remora-like, to every mobile home set down by Jews but turn a blind eye to tens of thousands of illegal houses built by Arabs (on both sides of the Green Line)?
Let there be no doubt about it: Uprooting olive trees is wrong. Uprooting Jews from their homes in order to hand the homes to their murderers -- as Mofaz is threatening in Hevron -- is immeasurably more criminal and revolting. Professors for a Strong Israel demands an end to this hypocrisy and renewal of attacks against the aggressor, not against the victim.
