Statement to the Press - 12 March 2001

Re: Law enforcement, not lawlessness

Following attacks on passersby in Mea Shearim and in the Old City of Jerusalem, Professors for a Strong Israel condemns violence directed at innocent citizens, be they Jews or Arabs. We also call on the public to refrain from taking the law into their hands. We rely on the wisdom and integrity of the new Minister for Internal Security, Dr. Uzi Landau, and trust that he will employ the police correctly. We also trust that he will know to back his officers and men as his predecessor, Shlomo Ben-Ami, did not.
