Professors for a Strong Israel

Statement to the Press - 12 September 2001

Re: Arafat is terrorism!

Israel's feeble reaction to the terrorist attacks in the U.S. betrays the faithlessness and inconsistency of the Government. Israel's central contribution to the struggle against terror, as well as to her own peace and security, must be the elimination of Arafat. The disasters in New York and Washington should have been the signal for the end of restraint and for the beginning of merciless war against Arafat's terrorists. But 24 hours after the collapse of the World Trade Center, nothing here has changed.

As long as Yasser Arafat continues to live in the country; as long as he continues to run his racist terror campaign against Israel and the Jewish People; as long as the Government sees in him a partner in dialogue; as long as the Defense Minister grants him immunity and the Foreign Minister continues to beg for a meeting with him - this is acceptance of terrorism and capitulation to it. The Prime Minister may talk of war between the humane and the bloodthirsty, but as long as the policy of restraint continues and Peres is permitted to hallucinate, he is only taking more missteps down the disastrous path of Oslo.

Professors for a Strong Israel demands of the Prime Minister that he declare Arafat to be the enemy, and proceed accordingly.
