Statement to the Press - 13 September 2004
Rabbi Shapira: "A government decision to compensate evicted residents must bring about immediate resignation from the government."
The former Chief Rabbi of Israel, Rabbi Avraham Shapira, met a joint delegation of Professors for a Strong Israel (Dr. Ron Breiman, Prof. Talia Einhorn, Prof. Michael Rosenbluh, Prof. Eli Pollak), of the Officers' Forum for National Strength (Brig. Gen. [res.] David Hagoell), and of senior reserve officers (Col. [res.] Moti Yogev). At the meeting, the Chief Rabbi stated clearly and unambiguously:
"A government decision to compensate evicted residents must bring about immediate resignation from the government."
Participants in the meeting thanked the Chief Rabbi for his principled and resolute stand against the Gaza withdrawal plan.
