Professors for a Strong Israel
Statement to the Press - 14 February 2003
Re: The problem isn't Arafat
The big news of Arafat's agreement to reform the authority and to appoint a prime minister might elicit sighs of relief from Shimon Peres and his European friends -- just this week we saw what European anti-Semitism, Belgian style, is capable of -- but it must not prompt the Prime Minister to advance dangerous ideas like the Road Map to a Palestinian state west of the Jordan.
Professors for a Strong Israel declares that the problem is not Arafat, but the whole idea of establishing a Palestinian state in the heart of our country. Thus the reform that must take place is a reform in the Israeli mentality, not in the Palestinian Terror Authority. The unchanging goal of the latter is the destruction of the State of Israel. The new mentality must find expression in the makeup of the new government.
