Professors for a Strong Israel

Statement to the Press - 16 August 2003

Re: Haifa equals Nablus, all right

The Palestinian "foreign minister," Nabil Shaath, said yesterday: "I want to be clear: this right includes returning to an independent state and to Palestinian cities in the Jewish state. Whether a person returns to Haifa or to Nablus, their return is guaranteed."

At Professors for a Strong Israel, we agree completely with equating Haifa and Nablus. The rest, of course, is nonsense. The solution to the Arab refugee problem will not be found on either side of the Green Line. Even settling refugees in Yesha will bring about a non-Jewish majority on this side of the Jordan, a demographic disaster. We demand that the authorities in Jerusalem cease their stammering on this issue and declare unambiguously that the Arab refugees can be resettled anywhere in the world but not in the Land of Israel, west of the Jordan.
