Re: Sabra-Shatila II

The Government's treatment of the South Lebanon Army, our allies for many years, is likely to bring about a slaughter before which the terrible massacre in the Sabra and Shatila refugee camps will pale. Eighteen years ago the mass murder was perhaps unexpected. Today it can be foreseen, and the commission of inquiry can already be appointed.

Professors for a Strong Israel demands that the Government, whose helplessness is bringing about collapse on all fronts, at least offer immediate asylum to any SLA soldiers who want it, them and their families, before it is too late. For both humanitarian and practical reasons, the expected slaughter cannot be permitted to occur.

Will the Government now try again to sacrifice the Golan in order to obtain Syrian help in leaving the Lebanese quagmire?
