Professors for a Strong Israel

Statement to the Press - 27 May 2003

Re: Ideological meltdown

Professors for a Strong Israel deplores the government's decision to accept the Road Map, a decision that in effect invites the end of Israel's independence -- a renewal of Mandatory rule through foreign commissioners in Israel's capital, followed by the establishment of a Palestinian terrorist state. We see this decision as a grave failure of principle, an ideological meltdown.

In practical terms, we are convinced that the Road Map will lead precisely nowhere. The Road Map will join the Oslo "peace process" in the dustbin together with all the other plans that were supposed to separate Israel from its patrimony: Jarring, Rogers, Reagan, Mitchell, Tenet, and others.

We declare that Painful Concessions have already been made, and partition of the country has already been accomplished -- when the peace treaty with Jordan was signed. The government has no moral authority, and it will never have the moral authority, to hand over sovereignty in the Land of Israel to others. There is no room for a Palestinian state west of the Jordan.

We demand that the government make clear that, whatever the long-term solution that may (or may not) be found, this solution will not include any return of Arab "refugees" to any part of Israel west of the Jordan.
