Professors for a Strong Israel

Statement to the Press - 27 October 1997

In the matter of Zo Artzenu

As the sentencing phase in the trial of the leaders of Zo Artzenu approaches, Professors for a Strong Israel will hold a protest near the courthouse in the Russian Compound in Jerusalem -- today at 15:00.

We hold that the sedition statute in the Criminal Code is inappropriate for a democracy. It must not be used to restrict the right of protest. We are planning legal and legislative steps towards the repeal of the statute.

We protest the blind eye turned towards the activities of the left and of the Histadrut, which are much closer in nature to the definition of sedition.
