Professors for a Strong Israel

Statement to the Press - 2 July 1995

Re: The need for an alternate road to Jerusalem

Professors for a Strong Israel finds that the closing of the main Jerusalem highway, cutting off the capital as a result of a forest fire, proves again the dire need for widening the alternate road through the Bet Horon pass -- route 443 -- and keeping it in Israeli hands in any future accomodation.

The group demands that the Minister for the Environment deal with rehabilitation of the forests near the approaches to Jerusalem instead of concerning himself with founding a Palestinian state in the heart of the Land of Israel, a development which will bring fire to Jerusalem and to the entire country.
