Professors for a Strong Israel

Statement to the Press - 30 April 2002

Re: Why Arafat and not Pollard?

Professors for a Strong Israel protests against the release of Arafat and his gang of killers from their cage in Ramallah. Even if it was decided not to eliminate Arafat, his isolation should have continued, and there is no justification for giving immunity to the murderers of Rehavam Zeevi.

We deplore the injury done to Israel's sovereignty by agreeing to any commission of inquiry into the non-massacre in Jenin, as dictated by the Americans under Saudi-Arafat pressure and carried out by the American High Commissioner and the British prison service.

The government should have put American integrity to the test, and made the release of Arafat conditional on the release of Jonathan Pollard.
