Professors for a Strong Israel

Statement to the Press - 7 June 2000

Re: An end to blackmail

The crumbling of the Barak government proves that a government that continues in the so-called peace process has neither the right to exist nor the ability to survive. Professors for a Strong Israel reminds the public that no government since the Oslo disaster has served its full term, and no prime minister who followed in its path has survived in office.

Now that a government ruled by the extreme left has collapsed, is its successor to be a government that is even more extreme, supported not by a Jewish majority but by Arafat's representatives in the Knesset?

Blackmail is blackmail. Just as the Prime Minister has announced that he will not give in to blackmail by his former coalition partners, we demand that he cease immediately his surrender to Arafat's blackmail. Israel is not obligated to keep agreements that were imposed by means of blackmail and threats. We reiterate our demand of an end to negotiations with the arch-terrorist.

We call upon the Prime Minister to turn his back on those advisors who, out of militancy and fanaticism, are calling for violence in the form of transfer of Jewish populations or their abandonment to enemy rule. It is past time to unite the nation in preparation to meet the dangers to its security created by the Oslo agreements.
