In the current process of "give and give" the Prime Minister acted like a political and diplomatic novice. He gave in to pressure and took a bad agreement and made it into a disastrous one, granting added impetus to Arafat’s blackmail. The agreement signed is an "improvement" only from the point of view of the terrorists and grants nothing to Israel. On the contrary, Israel bound itself again to dangerous concessions and waived any obligations from the side of the enemy.
In his first political and diplomatic test, into which he entered unnecessarily and in which he failed to obtain any sort of peace, Barak showed his lack of backbone and capitulated to the pressure of the Messianic extremists in his Meretz-dominated government. Instead of bringing needed changes to Israel, Barak is following in the footsteps of his three predecessors -- he has placed a patch upon the holes in Wye which itself was a patch on Oslo and simply accelerated the slide towards the Oslo War. The irresponsible signature on the document releasing dangerous terrorists and granting other prizes to terror and its leaders will show again that the fathers set the price that their sons will pay for their follies.
Professors for a Strong Israel points out that the terrorist attacks that occurred immediately after the disgraceful signing ceremony are not designed to derail the virtual peace process but rather to attack an Israel that is running away from her land, her history, and her values.
